Needless to say, that was a total lackluster Oscars. I don't know why I get my hopes up anymore because the awards show just seems to get worse and worse and more boring every year. I was initially excited for the show because James Franco was hosting but he turned out to be a bit of a dud as host. I still love him though!
The winners were totally predictable and I asked myself about 20 minutes into the show, why am I even watching this? I guess I continued in hopes that something interesting would transpire, like a wardrobe malfuntion, a slip of the F bomb, something. But nope, nothing interesting happened. At all.
So let's get to the point here, the dresses. The red carpet was pretty much a sea of mediocrity but there were a few good dresses.
My #1 Mila Kunis in Elle Sab. She looks absolutely stunning in this dress and it fits her perfectly. The dress is a perfect balance between sexy and romantic and the color looks great with her complexion. Definitely oscar worthy!
My #2 Scarlett Johansson in Dolce Gabanna. Love this dress and the way she is styled. Short hair is hard to style without adding extensions and I think her hair looks awesome! Between the color and the lace overlay, I find this dress really interesting and the cut out back made it super sexy. Love it!
My #3 Annette Bening in Naeem Khan. I didn't think this dress looked that great on the red carpet, but when she got on stage it blew me away! The dress was sparkling and blinging everywhere and it made her look tall and skinny, which is always a plus. I normally hate sleeves, but she was definitely on trend (sleeves were everywhere last night) and she pulled off the look nicely.
My #4 Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein. I am going to put this on here, even though I don't think this dress was appropriate for the Oscars. I don't think it is dressy enough, especially with the way she is styled, but I love it and it fits her to perfection. I love the cut of this dress, I wish I could have a short black version. Hot!
Now time for worst dressed. There were a lot but I will just mention these few.
#1 Worst Marrisa Tomei in Lily et Cie. My God, how could she possiby think this looks good? That is the weirdest dress ever. The neckline is awful, the thing on the bottom is atrocious. It looks like prom from 1982. At least her hair looks good.
#2 Worst Nicole Kidman in Christian Dior. I can't believe she wore this! Usually she looks amazing on the red carpet. The dress looks like an embroidered duvet cover and her hair looks really bad. That is exactly how I wear my hair on days I don't wash it.
#3 Worst Cate Blanchett in Givenchy. What is going on with the top of this dress and the wierd pop of lime green? So random. I actually like the bottom of this dress and think it would be really beautiful with a different top.
#4 Worst Sharon Stone in Christian Dior. Scary!!! She looks like a goth princess/serial killer with her crazy makeup and 1 foot tall poof. The dress is actually ok (just ok) but her styling is horrible! Someone help this woman.
Did anyone else notice that there were the most random people ever at the oscars last night? Like Celine Dion? Sharon Stone? Donald Trump? And where was Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad and Angie, Johnny Depp? I wonder if some actors are starting to snub the oscars because they realize how crappy they are. Hm.

Part-time Vegetarian
I never thought I would say this, due to my love of pork chops, chateaubriand and turkey meatloaf, but I have actually been considering becoming a vegetarian.
There are obviously many arguments on whether being a veggie is healthy or not. The main one being that on one hand you need the protein and iron, but on the other hand animal fat is terribly bad for you.
So what to do? Well the obvious answer is to become a part-time vegetarian. I think one really annoying thing about being a full blown vegetarian is how restricting it is. Like if you go to a party and the host serves meat and the veggie has to say they don't eat meat and then the host feels bad and the guest goes hungry and everyone feels awkward.
So being a part-time gives you the best of both worlds and you can make your own guidelines. For example mine are that I don't want to eat processed meat or meat with hormones. I also try to eat less than 3 servings of fish per month (mercury levels.) You can also do something like only eating meat on 2 days out of the week and being veggie for the rest.
I think that by taking the meat factor out, most people are likely to eat more vegetables and therefore increasing fiber and nutrients and cutting down on fats.
If you are skeptic on giving up meat, you really should look into the health benefits of cutting back. Here's a excerpt from Self magazine:
Why Go (Sorta) Veggie
"1. To stay slim Eat less meat, gain less weight- that's the upshot of one American Journal of Clinical Nutrition study. In it, folks who ate the most red and processed meat and poultry gained the most weight (almost 5 pounds) over five years. The cause isn't yet clear, but if cutting back on meat doesn't hurt and it helps keep us svelte, does the reason really matter?
2. To help the planet Trading red meat and dairy for a plant-based diet only one day a week cut more greenhouse gas emissions than buying all locally grown food, according to researchers at Carnegie-Mellon University. Make it two days weekly and you'll erase your carbon footprint that much more!
3. To fend off cancer Women who consumed the most animal fat in the form of red meat and high-fat dairy had a 24 percent higher risk of developing breast cancer, a study from Harvard University indicates. Carcinogens in cooked meat are one likely culprit, explains study author Eunyong Cho, Sc.D.
4. To protect your heart Women ages 20 to 55 who ate the most red meat also had a higher risk for coronary heart disease in a 26-year-long Harvard School of Public Health study. Whose risk was lower? Women who got the majority of their protein from vegetarian sources such as beans and nuts. Blame excess artery-clogging saturated fat for meat's heart-harming potential.
5. To save cash Plant proteins are cheap: One pound of dried beans costs $1.24 on average, must less than a pound of lean ground beef ($3.50) or bacon ($4.70). What's more, meat consumption costs the United States more than $190 billion a year in health-related expenses for issues like cancer and diabetes, says Neal Barnard, M.D., president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, D.C. In other words: Eat less meat; improve your health; avoid pricey treatments; cha-ching."
If that doesn't convince you, nothing will!

What happened?
To Aubrey O'Day? This is tragic. I saw this pic of her with Eve and couldn't even believe that it was her. I thought it was Rachel Uchitel at first.
What happened to the Aubrey from Danity Kane? She used to be so cute! Remember?
Maybe it's because she started a war with Diddy and he placed a curse on her. She is kind of stupid, I mean who in their right mind would start a war with him. He is like one of the most powerful guys in the music business. Silly girl.
I do secretly wish that Danity Kane would get back together! Slim chance, but a girl can hope.

Buff and Tough
Did Cameron Diaz not get the memo that steroids are bad for you? Holy crap her arms are getting massively cut up. She is starting to look like Madonna (apparently A-Rod likes chicks with dude arms).
Does anyone else think its totally unfeminine to have arms like this? I don't think this is a good look. Cammy seriously looks haggard and really looks to be aging a lot. I guess that's what happens when you're constantly in the sun. Every time I open a tabloid, there she is in Mexico or Hawaii or wherever on the beach in a bikini. Not good.
Anyway, I think she should stop pumping iron. She is starting to look like a man. Between the body building and tanning, she will soon look like this! ahh!

Odd Sense of Accomplishment
I can't help but be proud. All of my dollars spent on beauty products and hours spent at the gym are finally getting some recognition. Us Bay Arean's should be so pleased with ourselves. Tear.

The Daily Beast thinks it has found a way to see which areas of the country are the most hung up on appearances. And while most Californians would immediately assume Los Angeles is the gold standard when it comes to who is the most vain, Southern California didn't even get a bronze in this list.
The San Francisco Bay area is the most vain spot in the country according to publication. The City is followed quickly behind by New York and Boston. Los Angeles came in No. 4.
The Daily Beast explains it took into account our weight, our gym cards and our love for "product."
First, it took the top 25 cities with the largest percentage of people who belong to gyms.
Then it took that list and measured BMI (body mass indicator) stats from the health department.
That list was then measured based on how much people spend on personal care. The cosmetic budget got double the points and from the below numbers you can see that is what puts us on top.
- No. 1 - San Francisco - Average monthly personal care spending: $111 - Portion of population not overweight: 50.3 percent - Portion of population that belongs to a gym: 20.4 percent
- No. 2 - Boston - Average monthly personal care spending: $106 - Portion of population not overweight: 44.6 percent - Portion of population that belongs to a gym: 23.2 percent
- No. 3 - New York - Average monthly personal care spending: $81 - Portion of population not overweight: 44 percent - Portion of population that belongs to a gym: 21.7 percent
- No. 4 - Los Angeles - Average monthly personal care spending: $88 - Portion of population not overweight: 39 percent - Portion of population that belongs to a gym: 18.4 percent
- No. 5 - Hartford - Average monthly personal care spending: $88 - Portion of population not overweight: 43 percent - Portion of population that belongs to a gym: 17.2 percent
- No. 6 - Dallas
- No. 7 - Chicago
- No. 8 - Charlotte, N.C.
- No. 9 - Minneapolis

Dinner with a Celeb
This week I am at an utter lack of inspiration for the ol blog. Hence the lack of posts recently. So I asked my friend for some inspiration and we came up with the idea of discussing what celebs we'd like to have dinner with and why! How ORIGINAL, right?
So here are some ideas:
1. Angelina Jolie to ask her why she wore this outfit.
2. Britney Spears to discuss her weave issues.
3. These 2 dirtbags to tell them to take a hike.
4. Kim Kardashian for some butt growing tips, then to tell her to take a hike.
5. James Franco because he is hilarious. And well, he's hot.
6. Megan Fox to ask her why she always makes this face when she takes pictures. Maybe it's permanently stuck like that.
7. Enqrique Iglesias, need to get to the bottom of the mole removal.
8. Pauly D, to ask him if he would do me the honor of styling my hair.
9. Donatella Versace. I have got to know how she keeps her skin looking so young and vibrant.
10. Kil Zolciak. I am dying to know how she gets the wig on before her man wakes up in the morning. Does she sleep with it on?

Neutral Chic
I personally think black clothes are the best, and I seldom wear anything other than black or neutral colors. Not that there's anything wrong with bright colors, but I guess I am just kind of a neutral kind of girl.
I got to thinking about it and I think the colors you wear depend on where you live. In San Francisco, people wear black all the time, all year round. I have noticed that people from LA, San Diego and warmer climates are always wearing hot pink, yellow, purple, etc. It looks great, but I don't know how well it would fly in our moderate climate here in the city.
I found this picture of Reese Witherspoon while she was shopping in Paris a couple weeks ago. I absolutely love this look! Parisians are well known for wearing lots of black so Reese fits in perfectly! This is my style inspiration this week. So French and tres chic!
Seems like minimalism will be a big trend for 2011 fashion, so I expect to see a lot of neutral colors this year. Here are some other celebs that follow the neutral trend to help with some fashion inspiration!
