Lash Game

Alright guys, I've been debating about whether or not to share this.  Some beauty secrets need to be held under lock and key, but I thought I'd spread the wealth on this one.

People are always complimenting me on my lashes, I wish they came natural, but *sigh* they don't.

Here are some steps for the longest, thickest most dramatic lashes (without extensions!)

1. Careprost- This is a product you can buy on amazon for around 25 bucks, it is basically gerenic Latisse. When you get it, use it every day for about a month and then just put yourself on a maintenance program of about once a week.  You have to be sure to only get it on your lash line (top only) and really make sure it doesn't get in your eye, especially if you have light eyes.  It can cause permanent dark spots in your eyes. When I first started using it, I monitored the color closely in case of any changes and luckily I didn't have any.  So I was in the clear, but be sure to take care when using this product!

2. Mascara Routine- Everyone has their own special mascara routine that works for them, mine is quite lengthy so I won't get into that and I will cut to the chase.

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes.  Pretty much a miracle product.  I do my normal mascara routine and then finish with this.  The white tube is these little fibers that you put on while the mascara is still wet and they make your lashes look super thick and long.  It has 3 steps: mascara, fibers, mascara again.  It seriously works miracles.

I totally think that eyelash extensions are AMAZING and beautiful, but they are a lot of maintenance and can get $$$$.  If you are looking for a less expensive and something that lasts a little longer, give this regimen a try!

Here's an eyelash selfie for you :) xoxo

2015 Oscars

Drumroll....the obligatory Oscars post.

Let me start by saying that I was reading through all of my old blog posts the other day and I realized that I was kind of mean and there was definite celeb shaming going on so I am going to try really hard not to do that anymore.

First of all, how great is Neil Patrick Harris as a host? I just love him.  He is so funny and talented and just all around awesome.  Have to say he was looking pretty good in his undies. He and his husband David Burtka are one of the cutest couples ever and they totes make my heart melt.  One time I saw them at the Four Seasons in SF and NPH held the door open for me. Sigh.

Let's talk about the dresses.  I actually wasn't that impressed with the dresses, most of them were just meh.

#1 best- Naomi Watts in Armani
I mean, wow- just wow. She looks so amazing. Dress is so cute and fun and modern.  Hair and make up totally on point.  She is one of my style icons, I think she always looks fab.  Plus her boyfriend is Ray Donovan.

#2 best- Reese Witherspoon in Tom Ford
Love this classic dress by Tom Ford. It's totally her, her body looks amazing in it and I love the simple hair and make up.

#3 best- Rosamund Pike in Givenchy
I just love everything about this look.  The dress is classic with a sexy twist with the see through lace cut outs in the waist.  This is def the best she's looked all awards season.  Red shoes were kind of a surprise, but they work!  Only other choice you can really go with would be a nude or champagne color, but I can't even imagine that, I think red was the right choice.  Nice work!

#1 okay- Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab
jennifer-lopez-oscars-2015-academy-awards-2
Don't get me wrong, the dress is pretty and all, but I feel like this look has been done a million times.  Plus I think this dress is too young for her, it has a real girly quality to it which is not JLO's style.  I feel like this dress and the one she wore to the Globes were just too overdone.  It looks like she's trying too hard.  I love you JLO, but I have to put this in the fail category.

#2 okay- Scarlett Johansson in Atelier Versace
Scarlett-Johansson-oscars-2015-academy-awards
Her bod looks great and the color is really pretty, but her hair is really severe and I loathe her necklace.  If this dress was styled differently, it could've been a winner.  Maybe loose waves for the hair and diamond drop earrings with no necklace?

#3 okay- Lupita Nyong'o in Calvin Klein
Lupita-Nyong’o-oscars-2015-academy-awards
She is so beautiful, but I am not really feelin the top of this dress.  It's something about the pearls that I don't like.  It kind of reminds be on Kim Kardashian's necklace in the Break the Internet picture.  Also, this dress is reminiscent of a wedding gown.  I do have to give her props, the color looks great on her skin, and the cut of the dress is so pretty.  Wish the top was a different material.

The guys looked pretty handsome too!  Here are a few pics just for eye candy :)
Blue tuxes were a major trend for the guys this award's season and I absolutely love it!  It's a fresh twist to a classic look.  It can be tough to reinvent the tuxedo, and there's been lots of fails (think Dumb and Dumber), but the blue definitely passes the test.  I'd love to have any of these fellas on my arm!

All in all, it was a great show. A lot of the stars talked about causes they support in their speeches and also talked about their families, which was super cute.  Sad to say goodbye to awards season, but can't wait for next year's shows!

Be Glowing

By the way, I just wanted to everyone to know that while I was in retirement from blogging I had LOTS of people asking me to revive Urban Honey.  By lots I mean 5 or so.  So believe it or not, people actually find this blog entertaining.

Alright, now that that's out of the way.  Let's talk about self tanner. Very important topic.

We all know how I feel about laying out and baking in the sun.  Not good for those of us who want to stay looking young.  But the problem is- you gotta be tan.  Well, that's why God (or Neutrogena) gave us self tanner.

I was looking at my legs like a month ago and they were so white that you could like see my veins and I was like, wow I have got to do something about this.

So I marched by butt down to Walgreens and got this.
TA-DA!

No joke you guys, it seriously works.  It doesn't make you stink either.  I put it on in the morning everyday like I would my normal lotion and I am pretty tan now.  It looks super natural and it actually moisturizes too. Def recommend replacing your normal lotion with this and making it part of your daily routine.

One drawback is that it, like all self tanners, can leave weird spots around your knees/elbows/wrists so you have to make sure to rub it in really good and evenly.
Hi guys!  I am back in action! So, I had a major case of writer's block for the last 3 years or so, but I am ready to get back in the saddle.  As you can imagine, I have come up with lots of material over the last few years SO BE EXCITED.

I was thinking earlier today, hmmmmm what should my blog be about? I can't really think of one particular thing, so I am just going to wing it, as I do with most things in life.

Anyone who knows me knows my obsession with beauty (sounds vain, I know), so the blog will probably be mostly beauty tips, product reviews and such, with some other fluff scattered here and there.

Spa Night

Well it's that time of year, hibernation time.  The weather is turning crappy and that means staying in doors a lot.  Might as well make our cooped up time in doors useful and step up our beauty game!

The cold weather has horrible effects on your skin and can just make you feel a little glum.  So every couple of weeks, I have an at home spa night.  It's definitely necessary to stay looking fresh and youthful during the winter months.

Here is my routine:

1. FACEMASK. Masks are of dire importance in the winter time. I am totally obsessed with this one from Origins. I have kind of oily skin and this one is perfect for my skin type. You wear it for 10 mins and when you take it off, you have a new face!! No Joke. It shrinks your pores and makes your skin soo soft and dries up little blemishes. It's a miracle worker.

Another mask that is great is Origins Drink Up.  It's a moisturizing mask and it smells soooo good. I use it around my eyes.  Sometimes I have combination skin so I use Out of Trouble on the oily areas and Drink Up on the dry areas, both at the same time. Genius, I know.

2. TEETH WHITENER. No brainer here. Everybody needs whiter teeth, they can never be too white. A white smile can make all the difference in the world!! Makes your skin glow and eyes sparkle. WHITEN YOUR TEETH!!  I use these from Crest. They are kind of expensive, but worth the money.  They get your teeth whiter than generic brands and you only have to use them about 3 times to start and then just maintain by using them like once a month after that.  So they last quite a while.

3. HAIR MASK. Everybody needs shiny hair. Makes you look healthy helllloooo. This is a great hair mask. It is kind of hard to find at retail stores so ordering on the Internet might be the best option.  Use this mask before shampooing and end up with soft, shiny hair!

4. NAILS. Last, but certainly not least.  To me, perfect nails are the number one most important.  Whether you realize it or not, you use your hands a lot and people notice them a lot.  Having a perfect manicure makes you look put together and uber feminine.  For a quick at home mani, use this cuticle treatment from Sally Hansen and these base and top coats.  I have tried a lot of nail polishes in my day, and these 2 polishes are the KEY to a great paint job.

Most of these products you can get at drug stores, but I attached the links for purchase.  Enjoy!

Fall Nails

Guessssss what!?! Fall is here and that means we can wear goth nail polish again!! I am ecstatic.  You might find my excitement about nail polish a bit odd, but you know what? I don't really care. I love nail polish and I am not afraid to show it.  Nail polish is truly one of my greatest loves in life. Sigh.

I am bored with the pinks of summer and am ready to opt for some darker shades, I've just been patiently waiting for the weather to cooperate.  Don't get me wrong, I do love to paint a hot pink or orange, but I think darks are more fun and I keep my nails short, so darker shades look better on me.

OPI just came out with a new fall line that I am obsessing over.  The line is called "touring america" and has 12 shades for fall! If you've never been to the OPI website, you are seriously missing out.  They have a try it on feature where you can see what the nail polish color looks like on, add shatter, and you can even change the length of the nail and the skin color!  Genius, right?  Here is one of the shades I picked up, Suzi Takes the Wheel

I also got Uh-oh Roll Down the Window (is that gross btw?), which is a camouflage green color which I LOVE!! It is so cute and fall-y.

I am looking to pick up a few more new colors for fall, one will most likely be a red like Fishnet Stockings made by Essie.  It's a great color for the Holidays because it is classic and chic!
Here's a color palette to give you some nail polish ideas for fall and winter.

Classic Red  Nudes  Metallics  Army Green Mauve

Whatever color you choose, just make sure its painted perfectly and NO CHIPS! Chips are the devil.
