Jane Iredale Cosmetics

The picture may seem a bit extreme, but this line of make up seriously works miracles. It isn't that well known but it has been around for a while, since 1994. It was actually the very first line of "mineral make up."

I discovered it about 6 years ago when a friend introduced me to it. I had problem skin and would use MAC pressed powder and believe me, that wasn't helping at all. As soon as I started using Jane, my skin began to improve and look healthy. The pressed powder is honestly one of the best products I have ever come across. It is a concealer, foundation, powder and SPF all in one. It goes on beautifully and makes your skin look flawless. And trust me, it is a large task to make my skin look flawless.

Every person that I know that has tried it has fell in love with it and has never gone back to whatever crap they were using before. TRY this. It is amazing. It can be hard to find, but it is sold at a lot of skin spas and high end salons.

Fall Fashion

Okay, I know it's only July but Fall is right around the corner and it's time to start preparing outfits! Easy for me to say because it's pretty much winter in San Francisco right now and have already retired all my summer clothes for the year.

In preparing for a wardrobe shift, it's best to do research and then buy in advance. If you read magazines, you will notice that they are all talking about trends for Autumn. So get some mags and do a little research and find some styles you like. Right now there a lot of coats and boots are on sale (because it's the middle of summer) so now is the perfect time to purchase those. Then every couple of weeks pick up a new sweater or jeans or whatever you want. I like to buy things sporadically so I can spread the cost out of a longer period of time.

One strategy that I have always followed is to spend the extra $$ on the staples. Get a nice coat, a little black dress, a pair of boots and make sure they have a CLASSIC appeal to them. You don't want to spend $500 bucks on a pair of combat boots that will be out of style by next week. Then as the seasons and trends change, pick up tops and skirts and jewelry from H & M or whatever inexpensive store of your choice. The trendy stuff is just that, trendy, so you won't wear it for a long period of time. Why waste your hard earned money?

I personally think that Fall is the best time of year for cute clothes. You can layer, wear boots, scarves, all kinds of accessories... the more the better!

Here are some style ideas for Fall 2010:

Rich colors

Safari inspired and neutral colors

Equestrian (love this look!)

Metallics

Thigh high boots (my instincts tell me this is the season's must have!)

Dear 24 Hour Fitness,

Why do you have 20 televisions and every single one is on ESPN or some other sports related thing? The TVs are seriously 5 feet apart from one another and they are all on same channels. This makes no sense!

Obviously it is a man controlling what channel they are on because a woman would have the consideration to choose channels that a wide variety of people would like. I don't really watch TV at the gym but I possibly would if there was like liiiike say the E! Channel on.

Your members would appreciate a little variety and something exciting to watch to take our minds off the boringness of cardio.

PS- it's a gym, not a sports bar!

Sincerely,
Erin

Facebook

Just a quick FYI- your phone number really is on Facebook! If you go to account (on the top right of your home page), edit friends, click on phonebook on the left navigation bar and voilĂ , everyone's numbers.
That kind of makes me sick.
To make your number private, go to account, privacy settings, customize settings, and then change "mobile phone" to only me.

Safety Precautions

I could write for dayssss about safety precautions. Probably because I am paranoid from watching too many murder shows on TV. The safety precaution I am compelled to bring up is internet safety.

Ahhh the age of social media. If you're reading this blog, you probably partake in some form of social networking. Why wouldn't you? It's totally fun and entertaining. You can spy on people all the time and no one thinks there's anything wrong with it! ;) The problem with networking on the internet is that sometimes we give TMI (too much information).

I was watching that Kirstie Ally show "Big Life" and she was complaining to all her assistants and entourage because the tabloids were publishing all this personal information about her. She was convinced she had a mole on her staff and launched an investigation to find out who it was. Well, come to find out, the tabloids were getting all this information from what she published on Twitter!

More bothersome, I read an article about people's homes being burglarized when they were out for only 2 hours. The cause was traced back to victims posting where they were and what they were doing on facebook! Yes, it is sad to think that someone you know robbed you, but let's face it, you can't trust everyone you meet. I don't know how many times I see on facebook, my friends posting that they are going on vacation for a week or 2 weeks. Well if someone knew you had valuable things and where you lived, that's the perfect opportunity to rob you.

The moral of the story is be careful of the information you post about yourself online. Sure, posting now and again about what you're doing is great and people love updates, but don't put yourself at risk.

Neutrogena Clinical

I am always looking for new products to make my wrinkles go away. I don't have that many yet but it's good to nip them in the bud when they start to pop up so I use all kinds of wrinkle reducers.

I got this free trial for new Neutrogena Clinical. It's a $40 value! If you want to try it, you pay up front and then send in the receipt and UPC and they send you your money back. Kind of a lot of work but worth it, I think.

So you have 3 choices: You can get either the day cream, night cream or an eye treatment. I am going to Walgreens on my lunch break today to get the night cream.

Here is the link for the certificate. You must purchase by July 18th and return the receipt by July 31st so hurry up and get it!!

Faconnable

They made need a little help with their ads and models, but they make the most beautiful men's shirts! Every guy needs at least one of these in his closet. Even the t-shirts look so nice and are a bit dressy. They just class up every outfit. The shirts are a bit pricey but well worth the quality. So if your guy's birthday is around the corner or if you are just feeling generous, pick one of these up. Guarantee he will love it and he can wear it with anything from jeans to slacks. You can usually find some on sale at Nordstrom.

Brody and Avril

Is it me or is this the oddest couple ever? I could not believe it when I saw paparazzi pics of them canoodling at a quiet candle lit dinner in LA. So random!!

#1- Boy did Avril do a 180 with her taste in men. She was married to the hipster guy from SUM 41 and now she is with hot surfer guy Brody Jenner. What? Sk8r Boi to Surfer Boi? Ummm ok.

#2- Brody, you could do way better. I am not Kristin Cavallari's biggest fan but even she is better than Avril. Your last girlfriend was a playmate for God's sake!!

You get each other's names tattooed, pa-lease!! Everyone knows that's a relationship's kiss of death. I give this one 6 months.

Nice trucker hats.

Laundry Etiquette

Ugh. I get so annoyed. I am sure a lot of you out there have your very own washer and dryer and you don't have to worry about sharing. You don't know how good you have it.

For us apartment dwellers, we have the joyous task of doing laundry in a shared laundry room. In my apartment building there are 2 washers and 2 dryers and the people in my building are sooo inconsiderate when it comes to laundry.

I just need to complain:

WHY do you wait 4 weeks to do your laundry (who has that much underwear anyway?) and then decide to do it at peak time (Saturday and Sunday) and totally monopolize the laundry room for 8 hours. Hellloooo there is a laundromat right across the street. You should be doing it there. It will take like 1 hour and other people will be able to do their 1 load that they need for their outfit for that night! fdsiuyesiukjnhkfdnjfdshgrfdsahjfdsfddsda!!!!!!!

WHY do you not move your laundry when it's done???! This isn't your personal washer and dryer. Set a timer and move your crap. I don't want to move your stuff for you and touch your gross underwear and socks. Barf.

I don't understand how some people can be so inconsiderate. THINK PEOPLE.

Thank you.

PS- isn't that the cutest laundry room ever?

Really Lindsay Lohan??

Disgusting. What happened to her? She used to be so cute and have everything going for her and now she is a (I don't like to call people this) loser!

And to have the audacity to say the judgment to spend 90 days in jail is unfair. Ummmm let's see, you got caught with cocaine, got a DUI, are a drug and alcohol addict, didn't follow your probation, what do you expect?!?

I hate it when people don't take responsibility for their actions. She is getting what she deserves.

Love your courtroom nail art, Lindsay. Keep it classy.

Leave it up to the Swiss

By ELIANE ENGELER, Associated Press Writers

PAYERNE, Switzerland – An experimental solar-powered plane completed its first 24-hour test flight successfully Thursday, proving that the aircraft can collect enough energy from the sun during the day to stay aloft all night.

The test brings the Swiss-led project one step closer to its goal of circling the globe using only energy from the sun.

Pilot Andre Borschberg eased the Solar Impulse out of the clear blue morning sky onto the runway at Payerne airfield about 30 miles (50 kilometers) southwest of the Swiss capital Bern at exactly 9 a.m. (0700 GMT; 3 a.m. EDT).

Helpers rushed to stabilize the pioneering plane as it touched down, ensuring that its massive 207-foot (63-meter) wingspan didn't scrape the ground and topple the craft.

"We achieved more than we wanted. Everybody is extremely happy," Borschberg told reporters after landing.

Previous flights included a brief "flea hop" and a longer airborne test earlier this year, but this week's attempt was described as a "milestone" by the team and comes after seven years of planning.

The team says it has now demonstrated that the single-seat plane can theoretically stay in the air indefinitely, recharging its depleted batteries using 12,000 solar cells and nothing but the rays of the sun during the day.

But while the team says this proves that emissions-free air travel is possible, it doesn't see solar technology replacing conventional jet propulsion any time soon.

Instead, the project's overarching purpose is to test and promote new energy-efficient technologies.

Project co-founder Bertrand Piccard, himself a record-breaking balloonist, said many people had been skeptical that renewable energy could ever be used to take a man into the air and keep him there.

"There is a before and after in terms of what people have to believe and understand about renewable energies," Piccard said, adding that the flight was proof new technologies can help break society's dependence on fossil fuels.

The team will now start to build a second solar plane that will be more efficient and have a larger cockpit to allow for longer flights. That plane should be ready for international flights by 2013, said Borschberg.

The round-the-world flight will eventually be made with five stops along the way.

Borschberg took off from Payerne airfield shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday, allowing the plane to soak up the sunshine as he flew gentle loops over the Jura mountains west of the Swiss Alps.

The custom-built aircraft with its thin fuselage and the wingspan of a Boeing 777 passenger jet managed to climb to 28,000 feet (8,535 meters) and reached top speeds of over 75 mph (120 kph).

Borschberg, a 57-year-old former Swiss fighter who was wearing a parachute — just in case — dodged low-level turbulence and thermal winds, endured freezing conditions during the night and ended the test flight with a picture-perfect landing to cheers and whoops from hundreds of supporters on the ground.

"The night is quite long, so to see the first rays of dawn and the sun returning in the morning — that was a gift," Borschberg said after touchdown.

Borschberg said he did yoga exercises in the cockpit to stimulate the blood circulation and used breathing exercises and a water spray to stay awake, as the plane has no autopilot.

Former NASA chief pilot Rogers E. Smith, one of the project's flight directors, praised Borschberg's feat of endurance and the overall success of the mission.

"We ended up with perhaps 20 percent more energy than we in the most optimistic way projected," Smith told The AP.

After completing final tests on the plane after landing, Borschberg embraced Piccard before gingerly unstrapping himself from the bathtub size cockpit he had spent more than 26 hours sitting in.

"When you took off it was another era," said Piccard, who achieved the first nonstop circumnavigation of the globe in a balloon, the Breitling Orbiter III, in 1999. "You land in a new era where people understand that with renewable energy you can do impossible things."

Piccard said he was confident the success of the night flight would help to secure the 20 million Swiss francs ($19 million) still missing for the privately funded project with a total budget of 100 million francs ($95 million).

Toes

Poor little toes. Most of the time you are not cute, sometimes you are hairy, you get weird stuff stuck between you, you get stubbed, smashed, cut, blistered. Once in a while you get pampered but it doesn't really matter because after 2 days in heels you are back to your ugly selves. What to do??

I have noticed over the last few years, my feet have really taken a beating. Smashing then in tight shoes, tromping around the city in 4 inchers, what do I expect. I am always trying to find ways to take care of my feet because years of mistreating them can lead to painful problems like bunions and other bone problems. So I found this product that works wonders.

They're called Yoga Toes and they pretty much just stretch your toes and bones back to normal after they've been smashed in stilettos. When you first start using them it's a little uncomfortable but once you get used to them, they really relax your feet and ease tension. It will keep your feet from becoming disfigured because of constricting shoes.

I think these are about $40 but they have a knock off brand at Walgreen's for $10 bucks.

Give them a try, your feet will be happy!

Revolution 92.7

My new favorite radio station! Well only between the hours of 5-6pm. They play the BEST mix every weekday during that time. It's mixed by DJ SupaJames, apparently he's a local Vegas DJ. I had never heard of him before, not surpising since I'm not really in the know about the music "scene," but he is REALLY good! I always listen to it on my ipod while I workout and it's the best workout music ever! I always get so bored listening to my same songs over and over and this mix saves me at the gym. Listen to this and it will give you the extra motivation you need for a great workout :)

SHAPE Magazine

Does anyone else read this magazine? It is absolutely amazing and the best workout motivation ever! I have been reading it for a while and it helps me so much. It all started when I discovered that magazines are the only thing that get me through cardio at the gym. It started with US Weekly, but unfortunately there's not much substance to them so they don't last long. So I was forced to expand my horizons and now I read pretty much anything I can get my hands on. Well, not like the Wall Street Journal or Time or anything (boring!). The best gym reading material by FAR is Shape magazine.

It gives you great little ideas for recipes and healthy eating, reminds you not to get comfortable in your workouts and keep them intense, and gives you a million ideas about how to stay healthy and happy! One of my favorite parts is the great motivational stories of people who have lost tons of weight and kept it off!

I also love that they have different workouts in every issue that are made my pro trainers. I recently started trying them and they are totally legit and most of them you can do at home!

REDD

I know I am not the only one who enjoys the fruits of the vine... and by that I mean WINE! Yes. The best type of alcohol ever. Thank you to the genius who discovered this precious gift to the earth.
I went up to Napa with my dad a couple months ago for the day and he introduced me to a FANTASTIC restaurant. When you think Napa restaurants, you think of places like Bottega, Rutherford Grill, French Laundry (omg!); this restaurant is not as well known (to the everyday person) but is amazingly delicious and actually not that expensive.
I had the most delicous scallop and potato dish and my dad had duck confit with spitzel. Both amazing! And of course, they have a fantastic wine selection. Both dishes were under $20 which is a great deal for the quality of food and service. Try it next time you're in Yountville!

Sorry

If anyone is out there... I am sooo sorry I have been a neglector of my precious blog. I had to send my laptop into my IT to get it repaired and it took FOR-EV-ER (sandlot voice). But now I am back in action. Holler :)
